Meet Oscar Slabicki, the newest member of our EPS team! Oscar joins our data and analytics crew with a love for numbers—and a personal connection to senior living. When we asked why he chose this role, he said: “I grew up in a family of healthcare workers, and volunteering at a senior home in high school was incredibly fulfilling. My family hoped I’d become a doctor, but I’m more at home with Power BI and Excel. I’m excited to contribute to senior living again while making my family proud in my own way.” Oscar fuels his mornings with a black coffee and a mad dash to catch his bus. Outside work, he’s happiest outdoors—kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing, or fishing, far from Wi-Fi. What does he love most so far? “Working with such a brilliant team—and discovering good snacks in the break room.” Some of Oscar’s other favorites: Travel: Prague, Bali, Osaka (and anywhere in BC that doesn’t charge $40 for parking) Movies: The Minions, John Wick, The Big Short, Dumb and Dumber Sports: Soccer—big Manchester City fan! We’re thrilled to have Oscar with us and can’t wait to see the energy and insights he brings to EPS. Honouring Gordon Denford’s Legacy at Berwick
Berwick Retirement Communities is honouring its founder, Gordon Denford (1927–2025), with the introduction of the Gordon Denford Values Award.
EPS is proud to congratulate the first recipients of this award, celebrating team members who exemplify the values Gordon held dear.
Gordon Denford believed deeply in community, compassion, and doing the right thing. Although his passing in October 2025 was felt across Berwick communities, his values continue to guide the organization today.
The new award is part of Berwick’s Gold Heather Awards of Excellence, which recognize team members who lead with heart and integrity. This year, more than 60 team members were nominated.
The first recipients of the Gordon Denford Values Award are Melody Eastman, Housekeeping Manager at Berwick Parksville, and Fernanda Templos, Enhanced Living Services Team Lead at Berwick House.
